Hijacked and stolen vehicles recovered in Amanzimtoti

Our members spotted the vehicle driving on the R603 by Lovu Township.

A vehicle thief was nabbed and the stolen vehicle recovered by response officers on Friday, 20 March. ET Rapid Response’s tactical response team (TRT) was alerted by a tracking company that a Ford Ranger, which was stolen from Durban central, was heading through Umlazi towards the Adams Mission area.

“Our members spotted the vehicle driving on the R603 by Lovu Township and intercepted the vehicle, arresting one suspect,” said managing member, Tony Lokker. SAPS, Metro Police and CCPO assisted and the suspect and vehicle were taken to KwaMakhuta SAPS.

Wednesday, 18 March

A hijacked victim was rescued and the vehicle recovered in the Umbumbulu area after ET received an alert from a tracking company about the whereabouts of a VW Polo, which had been hijacked from Pheonix.

As a TRT was approaching the vehicle, a Blue Opel Astra sped off and a car chase ensued. The suspects lost control and crashed into bushes and fled. Members searched for them, but unfortunately they escaped. The victim was found by vehicle severely injured and confirmed that the suspects were using the Astra.  Members were assisted by KwaMakhuta SAPS, Metro Police, CCPO and Blue Security members. The recovered vehicles were processed for fingerprints and DNA.

Tuesday, 17 March

Another hijacked vehicle was recovered in a joint effort by ET, CCPO, SAPS, Blue Security and Metro Police K9 unit members. Reports were received of a VW Polo GTI hijacked in the Toti area at about 8.45pm, and that shots had been fired by the suspects. Possible whereabouts of the vehicle were obtained via the CCPO and the vehicle was recovered stripped in the Adams Mission area.

Earlier that day, an armed robbery suspect was arrested at about 3.30pm by ET TRT members patrolling in the vicinity of Old Main Road and Adams Road in Toti. Members were flagged down by victims reporting an armed robbery which had occurred. They said a group of armed males had stopped them in their vehicle, produced a firearm and robbed them of their belongings. One suspect was apprehended, while the others escaped. ET members were assisted by CCPO, SAPS, Metro Police K9 unit and other security firms.
