Clamp down on liquor outlets following Covid-19 pandemic

All on-consumption premises selling liquor must be closed between 6pm to 9am the next morning on weekdays and Saturday and from 1pm on Sundays and public holidays.

An immediate clamp down on the sale, distribution and transportation of liquor has been implemented around the country. Minister of cooperative governance and traditional affairs, Dr Nkosazana Diamini Zuma highlighted these changes in the Disaster Management Act.

All on-consumption premises selling liquor must be closed between 6pm to 9am the next morning on weekdays and Saturday and from 1pm on Sundays and public holidays.

The act stated, “Premises selling liquor, such as taverns, restaurants and clubs, must be closed with immediate effect, or must accommodate no more than 50 people at any time. Provided that adequate space is available and that all directions in respect of hygienic conditions and limitation of exposure to persons with Covid-19 are adhered to. No special or events liquor licenses may be considered for approval during the duration of the national state of disaster.”
