One dead in biker-related shoot-out in Amanzimtoti

The motive for the shooting is unclear.

One man was shot dead and one seriously injured in a shooting incident in Commercial Road in the Toti CBD at about 5pm on Wednesday evening, 11 March.

It is alleged that four bikers wearing Hell’s Angels club colours arrived at a motorbike repair shop and an altercation took place between the owner of the shop and them. Shots were fired, where one of the bikers succumbed to the gunshot wound sustained and the second biker also sustained a gunshot wound injury. The last two fled the scene.

The motive surrounding the incident is unclear at this stage. It is alleged that members of the Hell’s Angels Club visited the shop on 29 February. The shop owner was not present at the time and one of the employees was assaulted by the biker club members.

All services were on scene and the injured biker was transported to hospital. A case of murder and attempted murder was opened at Amanzimtoti SAPS for further investigation. The owner of the shop was detained by police.

All services were on scene and the owner of the shop was detained by police.

“At this point it appears to be an isolated incident involving individuals wearing the same club colours, but who are not members of any locally based motorcycle club,” said ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge who attended the scene.
