eThekwini Municipality city manager arrested

The extent of charges are unknown at this time.

eThekwini city manager (CM), Sipho Nzuza was arrested earlier today (Tuesday, 10 March) and appeared in the commercial crimes court this morning on the same charges as the Durban Mayor.

It is no secret that certain elements from within the governing party, and in specific those close to erstwhile mayor Cllr Zandile Gumede, have constantly accused the CM of being part and parcel of the problem.

Gumede, along with Cllr Mondli Mthembu, former chairperson of the human settlements and infrastructure committee, along with several other senior officials are currently out on bail relating to alleged irregularities in the awarding of DSW cleaning contracts.

The arrest further follows the discovery of the CM employing the services of an external service provider to lead an investigation that includes management at various levels, including the deputy city manager (DCM).
