Mystery surrounds electrocution of boy (12) at Amanzimtoti resort

As he pushed the gate, he was electrocuted.

Questions are still being asked about how a young boy was electrocuted and died at ATKV Natalia resort on on Saturday, February 22. The incident occurred at about 11pm.

An update on the story of the 12-year-old boy being electrocuted was shared on social media last week by someone who had been in contact with his family and spoke to the family’s spokesperson.

“The children were swimming in the pool, the gates are locked at 10pm. The gate in question has a electronic lock only. The electric fence runs above the gate. The child and his brother tried to exit the pool area. As he pushed the gate, he was electrocuted. The child did not climb the gate or fence. Two people got shocked trying to free the young boy from the gate. An ambulance was called, but it was too late,” read the statement.

ATKV Resorts issued the following statement: “ATKV Resorts and, in particular, ATKV Natalia wishes to convey our sincerest condolences to the family. The staff and management of ATKV Natalia provided support to the family, as well as staff members during this traumatic time.

“While the case is still sub judice, we cannot comment on the particulars of the matter. There are independent specialists who are assisting in obtaining facts. We are cooperating with police and wish to thank them, as well as emergency medical staff, for their assistance. We will continue to cooperate with the investigation, to its conclusion. The safety and security of all our guests, is of paramount importance to us.”
