Amanzimtoti dentist retires

Over the years he has built up a solid relationship with his patients.

Long-standing Toti dentist, Dr Len Esterhuysen is hanging up his drill. The 73-year-old has decided to call it quits after 43 years. Thirty of those have been in Toti when he bought Paul Bishoff’s practice in the old Allied building in the Toti CBD in 1980.

Len was born in Springs and did his schooling at Helena Volkskool and King Edward before studying at Wits.
He moved to Durban in 1976 to work for a boss, before opting to go on his own. He is married to Hazel and they have two sons – Ian, 40, an accountant who lives in Bermuda, and Roy, 38, who resides in Hong Kong.

Over the years he has built up a solid relationship with his patients, who came from far and wide to see him. “I feel very sad to be retiring. I feel like I’m letting the people down. I’ve seen my patients grow up and I’ve been invited to their 21 birthday parties and weddings. I also have fond memories of old Toti when the CBD was the life blood of the town. During my retirement I hope to do a lot of fishing, although I’m a terrible fisherman.”
