Relief for Amanzimtoti recycling centre

Durban Solid Waste has offered Social Waste Management SA to take over the recycling section at Nyathi garden refuse site in Umbogintwini.

Heeding the call for help from Jean-Claude Matthysen was Durban Solid Waste who has offered Social Waste Management SA to take over the recycling section at Nyathi garden refuse site in Umbogintwini.

The wonderful news came as a surprise to Matthysen, who found it difficult to make ends meet following a R2 000 fine he was issued with for being unable to move his recycling centre to a piece of land that was allocated to him in Westmead.

“DSW has responded to our cry out for help. From Saturday, 1 February, we were able to take over the recycling section at Nyathi garden refuse site. We are grateful for their support and we want to thank everyone for being so loyal to us. We would not have achieved this without you,” he said.

The centre will operate as normal, however, the organisation is not permitted to collect orange recycling bags.

“We have been instructed that we are not permitted to collect orange bags, but we are committed to finding a solution. In the interim bags can still be dropped off at our house or the new site. Thank you to everyone who has been dropping off their recycling by us, the materials have been washed, dry and even sorted. This makes recycling a pleasure. Sorting at source is essential. Together we can make a difference,” added Matthysen.
