Metro cops go beyond the call of duty

Both officers were deeply humbled following the post. 

Two officers from Metro Police Isipingo were recently praised across the country after they stopped to assist a motorist and his family who experienced car trouble along the N2 freeway.  The details of the heroic act was posted on social media page that is dedicated to people of the county, who break boundaries every day with remarkable acts of kindness.

The post on Facebook by Adrian Govender that went viral, read; “I have to say something good in SA, my wife and I and a friend of mine went on vacation in Margate KZN. The day we decide to go back home (Gauteng), I got a breakdown on the N2 highway at 11am. So me and my friend investigated the problem and it turns out that my car’s cam-belt broke. It is a Sunday morning, its holiday and stressed out i wondered what i will do.
“Today I what to tell them again, thank you officer Bongani Artwell Small and thank you officer Joseph Mthembu from Metro Police South Isipingo, that you have assist me with mechanics that have fixed my vehicle on the highway so that I can return back home with my family and friends. To all who is reading this and living in Isipingo, please give those two gentlemen a handshake again coming from me. They are watching the road even if you have a vehicle breakdown. I salute you two guys. Thanks again for your help and assistants. Beautiful story.”

Both officers were deeply humbled following the post.

When asked if assisting the motorists was something that they do often, Small said, “Since we are deployed to look after both south and north bounds of the freeway, whenever we come across a stationary vehicle we stop and investigate. It so happened that on this day the motorist needed assistance. The post going viral was unexpected and I’m humbled by the overwhelmingly positive response it has received. I am very proud to serve my community.”

While Mthembu encouraged motorists, who experience car troubles along the freeway, to seek assistance from Metro Police. “It feels wonderful that people have noticed our hard work. I am very proud. We always try to assist motorists however possible. Any officer will gladly help motorists who needs assistance.”

Metro Police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Parboo Sewpersad, also praised both officers and said, “They are a great example to both the public and their fellow colleagues.”
