Criminals back to work in Amanzimtoti after festive break

If you not a member, the CCPO is making a difference in the fight against spiralling crime.

As we headed into the second week of January, it seemed as if the criminals had returned from holiday, with a spike in CCPO busts compared to over the festive season.

Monday, 13 January

A combined operation between the CCPO, Blue Security and Toti SAPS led to the arrest of a wanted housebreaker and his accomplice who allegedly broke into a vehicle at the beach and stole holidaymakers’ wallets in the early hours of the morning.

Blue Security tactical ambassador for Amanzimtoti, Eugene Engelbrecht said they received a call about an incident near Inyoni Rocks Crescent at about 3am and responded to the scene where two suspects had allegedly been trespassing. The officers tracked down the suspects and recovered two stolen wallets. Further investigation revealed that one was a known criminal who was wanted for housebreaking and out on parole.

In a separate incident, an armed response officer and member of the CCPO managed to recover a bicycle from a suspect who was spotted walking in the Toti area. The officer spotted the suspect pushing the bicycle and carrying fishing rods and a gas bottle. He stopped the suspect and called for CCPO back-up. Unfortunately, he managed to flee the scene with the fishing rods and gas bottle, but the bicycle was recovered and handed over to Toti SAPS.

Later that day, a laptop stolen from flats in Kingsway, Amanzimtoti was recovered by CCPO supervisor Michael Mkize and Blue Security after they responded to the call at about 3.30pm. They spotted the suspect in the CBD, but he dropped the laptop and bolted.

Sunday, 12 January

A bicycle stolen in Maple Road, Toti was recovered by CCPO supervisor Isaac Dindi and his crewman Muzi Shezi in KwaMakhutha.

They were back in business when they nabbed two thieves later that day. “The two men first tried to break into a Victory Place residence in Toti and when that failed, they attempted to steal the car. The CCPO had a vehicle on site within a minute, got a description of the suspects and shared it on our radio,” said committee member, George Snodey.

Dindi and Shezi located the suspects and detained them with the help of Metro Police K9 officers who carry CCPO radios. “The victims are not members and they didn’t know what the CCPO is, but they are going to sign up now. Saturday, 11 January

A Ford Ranger stolen in Durban was tracked to KwaMakhutha. It was recovered by the CCPO, with help from ET Rapid Response and the tracking company.

The Ford Ranger recovered in KwaMakhutha on Saturday, 11 January was already badly stripped in 30 minutes.

Friday, 10 January

In the early hours of the morning, two suspects, allegedly involved in theft out of motor vehicle were arrested in a combined effort between ET, CCPO, Blue Security and Toti SAPS crime prevention. The suspected stolen property was found in their possession and the owner of the property and vehicle were located.

Thursday, 9 January

A housebreaker was apprehended and stolen property recovered in the early hours of the morning after he broke into a Meumann Place residence in Warner Beach. He gained entry through a window after removing the burglar bars and stole a handbag and iPhone. The owner tracked the iPhone and a quick response by CCPO, Blue Security and ET resulted in the suspect being nabbed.
