Amanzimtoti SPCA manager, Tracy Girling, explained that it is of the utmost importance that pet owners ensure that their fur babies are micro-chipped. “Our staff and shelter has been inundated with strays and animals who were injured. The shelter is full to capacity. Most of the strays who were brought in were runaways, possibly trying to escape fireworks. Some of the animals that came in, were claimed by their owners, however, there are several animals still in our care. We suspect that some of the unclaimed animals belong to residents who are on vacation. Every year, we stress the same concept, but it is not getting any better. And that is extremely heart-breaking for me and all animal lovers.”
