Metro cop arrested for Umbumbulu murder

Her body was found at Ndaya Reserve next to the road with head injuries and bruises all over the body on 1 January.

A Metro Police officer was arrested and appeared in the Umbumbulu Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 6 January for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, 29-year-old Zinhle Muthwa.

Constable Ndumiso Khumalo, 30, is facing charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice. He will apply for bail on 13 January.

Muthwa’s body was found at Ndaya Reserve in Umbumbulu next to the road with head injuries and bruises all over the body on 1 January at about 10am. She had also sustained a gunshot wound to the head.

A case of murder was opened at Umbumbulu SAPS for further investigation. On 4 January, Umbumbulu detectives, led by the station commander, followed up on information regarding Khumalo, who was traced and arrested in the Umbumbulu area.

A firearm suspected to be used in the crime was also confiscated by police. KZN provincial commissioner, Lt Gen Khombinkosi Jula welcomed the arrest and praised the investigative team.
