Communications officer of Amanzimtoti SAPS, Captain Charlene Van der Spuy explained the dire need for the community to join together to support the campaign and said, “We held a talk on child safety, how to report crimes and how to deal with domestic abuse. It is important to highlight these aspects because a lot of people are unaware of these matters. The talk was well received by the community. We will remain proactive to ensure that the women and children in the community remain safe and protected all year round.”

Following the scourge of gender-based violence in the country, which is declared a national problem, government is implementing the Emergency Response Action Plan on gender-based violence and femicide, which was announced by President Cyril Ramposa in September 2019.   The 16 Days Campaign forms the centre point of government’s comprehensive 365 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children.
At the end of the campaign on 10 December 2019, government will officially launch the 365 Days Behavioural Change Campaign. The programme will conclude on Tuesday, 10 December with a motorcade beginning at the old CBD parking area. For more information on the programme, contact Capt Van Der Spuy on 031-913-1308/10.
