Umkomaas golfers enjoy successful play in Natal Nomads tourney
Umkomaas has several fun competitions lined up for the festive season.
The Natal Nomads hosted their tournament at Umkomaas Golf Club last Tuesday, 12 November, and by all accounts the golfers loved the course.
The rain held off so all could finish which was lucky considering the bucket-loads of rain we’ve experienced in the past week. UGC remain grateful that their course is built on dunes as it drains well, and they’ve not been unduly affected by localised flooding. Club captain, Graham Coxell, gratefully received the cheque for R5 000 from the Natal Nomads and it will be put to good use in upgrading their facilities. As hosts for the 2020 women’s KZN inter club, the committee and women’s section are already hard at work preparing to welcome nearly 300 players next October.
Saturday, 16 November, saw the third installment of the betterball league and scores were great with the first three teams finishing on 44 points and counting one another out.
First place went the way of Patrick Ndlovu and Kevesh Seepershad, second place went to Graham Coxell and Harold Horsley and Willy and Sue Boucher scooped third place. Prizes for the most accurate (nearest the pin) were awarded to ‘Big Joe’ (fourth), Tash Naicker (ninth), Graham Coxell (13th) and Hans Beuthe (17th).
Bruce Sutcliffe accumulated the required 10 points to qualify for and win on his own, the jackpot.
The midweek fields continue to grow, and visitors are reminded that they’re always welcome at #thefriendliestclub. Winning on 39 points was Kavesh Ramikisson followed by Francois Rossouw on 36 points and Barrie Taylor edged out two others on count out to grab third place on 34 points.
