Kingsburgh Lions member, Pat Wilson, received a prestigious award for her dedication and excellent service. The service excellence award was also to acknowledge her hard work as district chairperson of two portfolios, environment and the production of the District 410C newsletter for the fiscal year 2018 to 2019.

Pat works tirelessly to improve the plight of the needy in the Toti community and always goes the extra mile to help others. In addition to being a past president of Kingsburgh Lions and a cabinet member for three consecutive years, she has worked tirelessly for the club over the years and never gives up trying to recruit new members.

“This award was totally unexpected and came as a huge surprise. I am absolutely delighted, yet humbled knowing how much effort other District 410C cabinet members also put into their portfolios,” said Pat. She is no longer on the cabinet, but still holds the positions of club treasurer, for the third consecutive year, and membership chair.

“I have always been service-orientated, with a strong belief in helping others wherever I can and. For many years, I had the desire to become a member of Lions Clubs International, the largest voluntary service organisation in the world, but for one reason or another was unable to do so. Finally in May 2013, I had the opportunity to join the amazing Lions Club of Kingsburgh, and within a few months became president for just under three years.

“It was a privilege to take on the leadership role in a team of truly committed, hardworking, enthusiastic and service-orientated members. I plan to remain a committed serving member of Lions, until such time as it is physically impossible for me to do so.

“For me personally, and I believe I can speak for Lions in general, there are a great many meaningful rewards one gets from being a Lion. The privilege of making a difference in people’s lives; seeing the smiles and sparkling eyes of children and the relief and gratitude on the faces of the elderly and others who need a helping hand in one form or another – be it something warm when they are cold, a meal when they are hungry, spectacles when their eyes grow dim, or a referral to a clinic or doctor for a check-up when sugar levels are found to be too high during our free diabetes testing.

“Other rewards include the camaraderie shared between like-minded members, the thrill of being a part of a successful team-spirited project in the community, self-growth and recognition, fun and laughter, and the pride of belonging to, and being an important part of, a prestigious international organisation whose motto is ‘we serve’. I encourage people to join Lions and to witness, first hand, the fulfilling wonders of serving others.”
