BFKA crowned alliance league 2019 winners

Despite the bucketing rain

Despite the bucketing rain all morning, the golfing gods saw fit to provide the perfect rain-free window between noon and 4pm for the field to get the last installment of the 2019 alliance league completed.

Those who opted not to play given the threat of rain missed out on a perfectly still day, one of the best they’ve had in weeks. Scores were, to be expected with heavy conditions, on the lower side, but the Umkomaasters managed to win the November round with 87 points, with nearest rivals three Hacks and a Gill counting out three others on 80 points.

Nearest the pin prizes were donated by Derek Airey and were claimed by Dave Castleman (fourth), Barrie Taylor (ninth and 13th) and Natalie Singer (17th). The ultimate prize, for the most successful team all year was awarded to the BFKA team of Bruce Sutcliffe, Francois Rossouw and Kuben Naidoo. Perhaps their strategy to incorporate a different fourth each month paid off.

The ever consistent Umkomaaster team (Barry Taylor, Nelson Moonsamy, Jacques Kirstein, Saga Reddy) came in second, followed closely by the Southern Lights (Wally Kent, Neil De Villiers, Ken Koster and Derek Airey). Conditions on Wednesday, 6 November, were sublime as the scores reflect.

25 players competed playing individual stableford. First place – Francois Rossouw on 41 points, second place – Warren Taylor on 40 points and third place – Willy Boucher on 38 points. The women’s section hosted annual Christmas alliance is scheduled for Saturday, 14 December, and everyone is welcome. Any combination (men or women) team can compete in the fourball alliance format. There are fantastic prizes, snacks and live music after prize-giving, so it promises to be festive. The evening will also see the famous R10 000 draw take place and tickets are still available from the Pro Shop if you’d like to be in with a chance.
