United Martial Arts International students triumph at the FCMA international championship

The United Martial Arts International (UMAI) KZN team shone brightly at the FCMA international championship recently held at Tongaat sports hall.

The United Martial Arts International (UMAI) KZN team shone brightly at the FCMA international championship recently held at Tongaat sports hall.

Three full contact martial arts national/ protea colours students scooped a total of 10 medals in various categories such as points/ continuous/ creative forms and creative weapons. Zahraa Mehtab won a silver and bronze medal, JT Esterhuizen won three gold and one silver and Acelia Esterhuizen won three gold and one bronze medal.

The students attribute their success to sheer hard work, endless hours of training and determination. “Our accomplishments would not have been possible without the support from our parents, Kancho Allan Mahomed (chief instructor) and sensei Tobias Esterhuizen, who we began training under,” they added.

The championship was exciting and was the first ever international championship held in South Africa with attendees from nine countries. President of sports and recreation, Thami Mchunu and his wife, Thanda, also attended this prestigious event.

It was an achievement that chief instructor, Kancho Allan Mahomed and sensei Tobias (instructor) were proud of and congratulated the students on their outstanding achievements.
