Amanzimtoti sim card fraudsters swiped

After the woman’s sim card was stolen, money was transferred from her account.

An investigation into a woman being defrauded at a mall in Amanzimtoti earlier this month led to the bust of five fraudsters by the provincial commercial crime unit in the Durban Point area on Saturday night, 26 October.

It is alleged that after the woman’s sim card was stolen, money was transferred from her account. The suspects, aged between 24 and 39-years-old, were arrested on the way to withdraw money that had been transferred from various sim cards to a bank account.

They were nabbed with 81 sim cards for various networks, nine bank accounts and 12 cell phones. They appeared in the Durban Commercial Crime Court on Monday, 28 October to face fraud charges. More arrests are imminent as operations are still ongoing.
