Time to help our four-legged Amanzimtoti friends

People who wish to contribute can have a short message printed in the SUN on behalf of a pet.

It’s that time of the year when animal lovers can dig deep into their pockets to help Amanzimtoti SPCA feed stray animals over the festive season.

This is a period when the organisation is inundated with animals who require assistance. Guy Fawkes Day and the fireworks season are looming, which is festive for some, but not for our four-legged friends who suffer the most with the big bangs.

It is an immense task for the SPCA, that relies on donations, to feed and house these animals. The Toti public can help by donating to the Animal Christmas Dinner Fund. The fund’s contributions go towards food for the homeless, abandoned and destitute animals that are housed by the SPCA.

People who wish to contribute can have a short message printed in the SUN on behalf of a pet. Just email the amount of your donation and a message to tracey@spcatoti.co.za or earlb@dbn.caxton.co.za, or fax to 031-903-5756, for attention Earl.

“Like I do every year, I will kick-start this year’s fund with a donation of R200 in memory of Misty and Honey and all my beloved pets,” said fund co-ordinator, Marlene. “Last year we collected a record R32 315 and we hope that this year, with the Toti public’s generosity, we can match or even surpass that.”

The animal dinner fund was started by Marlene with the help of past SUN editor, Heather Butler, more than 25 years ago. “We had no internet in those days, so people had to post their cheques to me and I had to fax the messages to Heather,” said Marlene.
