Exciting weekend ahead for Umkomaas golfers

This weekend sees both the men’s and women’s inter-club competitions take place at Umkomaas Golf Club.

The men will compete across three courses, Selborne, Umkomaas and Umdoni and #TheFriendliestClub looks forward to hosting the men’s team from across KZN as they tackle the course on Friday and Saturday, 25 and 26 October.

Eight of the Umkomaas women will travel north to Richards Bay competing in the KZN inter-club gold (Natalie Singer and Sabiha Bacaus) and bronze divisions.

The foursomes format over three days tests everyone’s golfing abilities, but the social events, as always, promise fun and camaraderie.

The women competing will be taking notes as Umkomaas has the job of hosting this competition next year.

Good luck to all the players who will fly the Umkomaas flag.

The second round of the club’s betterball league was played in scorching conditions.

While members all commented on the fact that it was the first time in ages there wasn’t a howling gale to fight, surely they would’ve appreciated a cooling breeze.

Results:

Thank you to Russell McElvey for his sponsorship of the nearest the pin prizes which were won by:

Harold Horsley (fourth), Robbie Mathias (ninth), Keith Vergottini (13th) and Barrie Taylor (17th).

Bruce Sutcliffe was smiling as he picked up two two-clubs with Saga Reddy picking one.

And it seems the jackpot holes were too well chosen as no one managed to pick up the qualifying 10 points across the four holes, so the carry-over means that the next competition promises a healthy jackpot.

Hunt the joker stands at R5 635.

R5 buys you a ticket in the draw to win the chance to turn over one of the cards in the cabinet.

So far, the joker has remained elusive but it’s getting down to the wire.

Visitors are always welcome at the club so why not come down for a drink this Saturday afternoon, pick up a couple of tickets and be in with a chance.

Draw takes place at 5pm.
