Clean Surf celebrates National Marine Week
A total of 106.8kg of litter, consisting of plastic bags and bottles, condoms, candles, needles, lighters and nappies, was collected.
National Marine Week was observed by members of the Clean Surf Project at the Amanzimtoti Lagoon on Saturday, 12 October. A total of 106.8kg of litter, consisting of plastic bags and bottles, condoms, candles, needles, lighters and nappies, was collected.

Sapphire Coast Tourism’s Romy Wenzel thanked the community for its support during the clean up and said, “Many, many thanks to Nomalanga Gumede from DSW, Simon Hattingh, Carlyn Hattingh and Co, Susanne Grobler and Co from Umkomaas, Courtneay Ellish from Warner Beach Surfing Academy, Giselle Halse from Giselle’s Kitchen, Michael who cleans the lagoon on a regular basis, Louis and Lood Lodewyk as well as Beach Management for assisting with the removal of litter collected.”

Each and every clean up campaign, is followed by an educational presentation based on the negative impact of marine plastic pollution on ocean life and human beings.
