A timeless love story

The charming couple laid eyes on each other and have never been alone since that beautiful day almost 10 years ago.

A lifetime of sweet memories and tender bonds have filled the lives of 90-year-old Alan Thrower and his beautiful partner 83-year-old Eve O’Neill. While the pair have not spent all their lives together, they certainly do feel as if their meeting was destined to happen.

The charming couple is nothing short of remarkable.

Alan who was born and raised in London possesses a rich cultural history filled with stories that can fill up a library. His life took various different turns and he has dabbled in a variety of professions.

One of the highlights in his life, was when he was tasked to deliver a lecture in NASA (The National Aeronautics and Space Administration ) in front of almost 2000 engineers. He was married for 57 years and was blessed with one lovely daughter, Carol, two grandsons and four great grandchildren. Alan has called Toti home since 2008, when his wife passed away.

When asked what his secret to a long and blissful life was, Alan chuckled and said, “I have no secrets. I live like a couch potato, the only exercise I get is during our beach clean-ups. Ever since my retirement I enjoy a glass of either wine or whiskey before bed. But my advice would be to not consume too much of sugar and don’t over indulge in alcohol.”

Eve has also been blessed with an abundance of jubilation and nostalgia. She was born and raised in Zimbabwe and was married at the tender age of 17. As a girl guide, her life was filled with adventure and marvel. One of the highlights of her life, was meeting the royal family as a girl. Her family blossomed, when she was blessed with five children, three girls and two boys, 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She moved to South Africa in 1980 and opened a successful haberdashery shop in Johannesburg.

“It is wonderful. I feel like we have known each other our whole lives. We share the same memories and everything is so easy between us. I often find myself singing a song, that Alan would know and he would complete the lyrics. It still surprises us to this day as to how compatible we are,” said a teary eyed Eve.

The golden oldies can often been seen holding hands, walking along the shore line collecting plastic during their daily beach clean-ups. This has become a passion of theirs and whatever items are collected at the beach is recycled.
