Sandy is Kingsburgh Lion of the Year

I have always been civic-minded with a desire to assist others.

Ex-Kingsburgh Lion Sandy Elliott, 68, was thanked for her selfless service by being the first recipient to be honoured with the Lion of the Year trophy and certificate. It is awarded to Kingsburgh Lion members who have always been willing to go the extra mile in the course of their service to the club and to the community.

“I was very surprised and absolutely delighted to receive the award,” she said. Sandy join Kingsburgh Lions in April 2015 and was involved in all their projects, but with an emphasis on aiding pensioners with transport to government hospitals.

“I left at the end of the Lionistic year 2019 (1 July), as I was really busy with personal projects and I wanted to be able to spend more time with my grandchildren who will soon immigrate to Canada. I loved being a Lion and being involved in the community and the fellowship with the other members. I will miss the interaction, but will still be involved in many of the projects as a Lions’ friend.”

Sandy was born in Kampala, Uganda and did her schooling in Zambia and Zimbabwe. She is in a long-term relationship and has been blessed with a daughter, Laurie, and two grandchildren Kylie, 5, and Bryce, 1.
