Cheetahs dominate UGC’s coarse in annual alliance league

The inaugural Widenham Retirement Village Sponsored Day takes place on Saturday, 5 October

The eighth installment of the annual alliance league took place on Saturday, 28 September, at Umkomaas Golf Club with great weather conditions and the promise of exceptional greens as they grow through the spring treatment.

The good scores were a testament to the highly playable conditions and the cheetahs, made up of Bruce Sutcliffe, Francois Rossouw, Kuben Naidoo and Bing Opie, emerged victorious on 89 points.

Second place went to Barrie Taylor, Nelson Moonsamy, Jacques Kirstein and Saga Reddy on 85 points.

Thanks to Viv Naicker for the sponsorship of wines for nearest to the pins. Reddy scooped two – 13th and 17th, with Sabiha Bacaus the ninth and Christopher Pillay the fourth.

The Wednesday individual stableford competition continues to be well-supported and judging by the consistently good scores, it seems that midweek is the right time to play.

  • First: Chris Viljoen on 39 points,
  • second: Wally Kent on 36 points and
  • third Peter Vermaak on 35 points.

Visitors are reminded that they’re always welcome at #TheFriendliestClub including on competition days.

The inaugural Widenham Retirement Village Sponsored Day takes place on Saturday, 5 October, and the field looks great with more than 80 players already signed up. There are still some spots open for those wanting to join in the four betterball competition, so give Francois Russouw a call on 039-973-1042. There are great prizes and a delicious spit braai on offer after the golf.

Good luck to the women who will compete on Sunday, 6 October, in the Lewis Reynolds trophy at Toti. They hope to improve on last year’s third place.
