Wanderers Haven sets up home in Amanzimtoti

Our vision for Amanzimtoti is to uplift and rehabilitate life skills for people in duress.

A new organisation to uplift and help residents in need has opened its doors in Amanzimtoti. People In Trouble Time Boxes NPC originally started in Kempton Park, Gauteng in 2016. After laying the foundation of the organisation, director and founder Norma Veldsman relocated back to Toti when she realised there is such a big need in the community and to advance the organisation.

The only way this could be achieved was to upscale to provide the best possible service to the community. Sharon Naicker and Johnny Swanepoel came on board as directors to achieve the required results and this is when the Wanderers Haven initiative was born.

“Our vision for Amanzimtoti is to uplift and rehabilitate life skills for people in duress,” said Norma. “Our goal is to assist with a solution to our community’s development, through upskilling, counselling and walking a journey with individuals and families who are serious about life skills rehabilitation. We are not here to just hand out a meal, clothes or other basic necessities, but rather to enable people to become self-sufficient, and in turn address the current condition of our community.”

Wanderers Haven’s goal is also to network or partner with like-minded companies, individuals and registered organisations, and as such is currently networking with Turning Point (Amanzimtoti Trauma Unit), with the view to empower and impact the lives of their clients who are victims of crime and abuse.

It opened its doors on 1 September and its charity shop and offices can be found at shop 21, Lifegro Centre in the Amanzimtoti CBD, next to the old Russells building.

“We invite community members to join us on Facebook (People In Trouble Time Boxes NPC). We welcome volunteers who would be willing to teach or train in skills and crafts to provide us with their skills and expertise. Donations of pre-loved items will also be most welcome and any financial contribution towards our future projects will be greatly appreciated,” said Norma. To contact Wanderers Haven, call Norma on 066-016-3870, Sharon on 084-222-1819 or Johnny on 081-587-1821.
