Cleansurf thanks community for its support

More than 200 volunteers collected more than 1178,6kgs of plastic and general waste.

Members of the Clean Surf Project and Sapphire Coast Tourism would like to thank everyone that supported the successful cleanup campaign.

More than 200 volunteers collected more than 1 178,6kg of plastic and general waste with the aim to save the environment on International Coastal Cleanup Day at Umbogintwini Beach on Saturday, 21 September.

The organisations that assisted: Sasol, PlasticsSA, CGCSA (Consumer Goods Council of South Africa), Polyco, PETCO, Polystyrene Association, Coca Cola, DEFF (Department of Environment, Forestry and Fishery), Ethekwini Municipality, DSW, local schools, St Martin’s Children’s Home, Metro Police, Amanzimtoti Country Club, MMKH Recycling, ATKV Natalia, Amanzimtoti Scouts, Amanzimtoti Lions and all those who assisted.

The Clean Surf Project Team, a registered non-profit organisation, is busy gearing up for National Marine Week which is celebrated every year during the second week of October and will be held from 7 October to 11 October.

Its purpose is to create awareness on the marine and coastal environment, the promotion of sustainable use and conservation of these resources, for the benefit of all both present and future generations.
