Thought provoking Women’s Month meeting for 21 Club

The typical demure cameo women was the focus of the décor for 21 Club’s Women’s Month luncheon.

Wine bottles, candles, flowers and hearts on the tables created a feminine atmosphere. Lunch was fillet steak medallions with mushroom gravy and trimmings, followed by lemon meringue pie which was voted the tastiest meal of the year so far by many.

Accomplished artist and art teacher, guest speaker Christine Andrews, gave a truly thought provoking talk on the importance of your thoughts. Youthful and enthusiastic, she soon had everyone pondering about how their thinking affects their feelings and then behaviour.

Thought patterns that have often been carried over from your parents and grandparents should be checked for relevancy now, as life can only be as good as one’s mindset. The ability to see the good in bad and happy in sad situations creates a positive mindset. Gratitude is key. Negative thinking can cause you to miss the hidden blessings.

Meditation is calming, while focusing on doing something constructive or creative that one is passionate about is extremely valuable to gain perspective.

Thanks to Christine, who echoed in a warm and wonderful modern way the thoughts of American minister Norman Vincent Peale (1898 to 1993) who wrote ‘The Power of Positive Thinking’.

Kathy Walker’s unexpected resignation led to history being made at 21 Club. Rozanne Baker, the daughter of Sybil Language, one of the 21 founder members of the club established in 1952, is the new member.

Many thanks to members for the great response to the Christmas jewellery project and continued support for Lions Club. It’s ‘Hats on for Spring’ at 21 Club’s September luncheon to be held at Lords and Legends conference room at noon for 12.30pm on Wednesday, 25 September. The décor is simply colourful. Guest speaker, Karen Tocknell will speak on ‘new beginnings’. Confirmation to attend or not must be received by the relevant committee members by Friday, 20 September. Guests, who must be invited by a member, will be accommodated if there is space.
