New recycled plastic bins to line Amanzimtoti beaches

A total of 100 bins will be installed from Pipeline Beach to Winklespruit Beach.

A fitting response to the theft of steel beach bins recently, is the introduction of new bins made out of 100% recycled plastic to Toti beaches thanks to Clean Surf Project (CSP).

The bins have been sponsored by Polyco, a not-for-profit industry body that was established in 2011 to focus on reducing the amount of waste going to landfills by increasing the sustainable collection, recycling and recovery of polyolefin plastics.

“A total of 100 bins will be installed from Pipeline Beach to Winklespruit Beach. The project started on Wednesday, 11 September and thanks to Mark Barber and Jace Govender of beach management for getting the installation on the go,” said CSP’s Denzil van der Westhuizen.

“This initiative was made possible after brainstorming with various role players from the plastic industry, such as Plastics SA, Polyco and Petco, CSP, Sasol, council, beach management, DSW, Sapphire Coast Tourism and Toti Conservancy when tons and tons of plastic waste washed onto our treasured Sapphire coastline at the end of April.

“We urge everyone to make use of the bins and only leave their footprints behind on our beaches.” Call CSP on 082-802-3353 or email cleansurfproject@gmail.com.
