Protests sweep through Isipingo

The situations are being monitored by Isipingo SAPS.

Two cases of public violence are being investigated by members of the Isipingo SAPS following protest action which was ignited in two areas in Isipingo this morning.

In both cases the protest action pertained to housing in the area.

Isipingo SAPS communication officer, Captain Ragavan said, “This morning at about 4.30am, opposite a Transit Camp, almost a hundred people burnt tyres in protest for housing.  Police were called to the scene and the crowd dispersed calmly once human settlement personnel addressed them.”

The situation is being monitored by Isipingo SAPS.

“In another case, near the Pilgrim Station, about a hundred people burnt tyres on the road.  The crowd is still protesting, however police are monitoring the area,” said Captain Ragavan.

No arrests have been made in both cases.
