Two bust for fake liquor in Folweni

The team seized a total of 168 bottles of counterfeit liquor as well as 170 bottle caps.

Two men were bust for manufacturing counterfeit liquor in Folweni on Wednesday, 11 September. The Umlazi cluster task team and K9 unit acted on intelligence and proceeded to a premises where they found the two making fake branded vodka.

The team seized a total of 168 bottles of counterfeit liquor as well as 170 bottle caps suspected to be stolen. The two men, aged 25 and 26-year-old, were placed under arrest. The total value of the recovered liquor is estimated at R15 000.

The two suspects appeared the Nsimbini Magistrates Court, facing charges of possession of counterfeit liquor, contravening the Merchandise Act, theft, fraud and tax evasion.

“Fake alcohol is known to have a serious adverse impact on the health of users and can also lead to chronic diseases and sometimes even death. These operations are still ongoing to curb the manufacture and sale of counterfeit liquor. We appeal to our citizens not to buy counterfeit liquor and report those who peddle such dangerous concoctions to police,” said Lt Colonel Thulani Zwane.
