A 43-year-old Doonside man is still reeling from shock after he was allegedly brutally attacked and robbed of his cellphone near the Seadoone offramp on Tuesday night, 17 September at about 6pm.

The traumatised man, Flip Cary-Smith explained how the horrific ordeal occurred and said, “I was travelling from Winklespruit and I stopped at the offramp.  There was a heavy flow of traffic in the area and I waited for the area to clear up.  I checked my right and left side and when I turned back to the right, a man was half into my bakkie.  I was shocked.  Everything happened so fast, I barely saw what happened.  He had a piece of wood attached to his hand with either nails or blades on it.”

Cary-Smith allegedly sustained numerous cuts on his forearm, legs and shoulder.  He also sustained scratches on his face and was treated at a local hospital for his injuries.

“The public should always be on the lookout for anyone suspicious.  Always keep your windows closed at the intersections.  Crime in the area is getting out of hand,” he added.
