Kingsburgh Lions Club is proud to announce Moira Rigby will be reinducted as president for the next year. “I aim to inspire my members to train for leadership roles during the year in readiness for the next year,” she said.

“Projects which we will run during the forthcoming year, include those we do on a regular basis, such as food security, diabetes testing, loaning of wheelchairs and walkers, working with Lions Brightsight in Boksburg by assisting pensioners, unemployed and low income earners to receive spectacles and also assist with hearing aids when possible.”

White Cane Day is a blind awareness day and you can find Kingsburgh Lions at Pick n Pay Arbour Crossing on Saturday, 12 October or at Checkers in Seadoone Mall on Tuesday, 15 October to donate R10 in exchange for a badge to support the blind.

“We also continue to collect bread tags and bottle tops to recycle for wheelchairs, and cold drink can ring pulls to recycle for the training of guide dogs for the blind, as well as making eco bricks to use in building structures. We continue to help the elderly and children whenever possible and will also run our annual ‘Anything Warm Campaign’ and ‘Scarves and Beanies’ projects during the winter months.”

The Lions’ international Peace Poster Competition proves to be popular with local school children each year, which gives them the opportunity to use their creative skills to compete against children from all over the world using a given theme.

Kingsburgh Lions run a monthly fleamarket at St Mary’s Church hall in Warner Beach on the first Saturday of every month in conjunction with the church to raise funds, so that they can continue to assist the community as much as possible.

“In February next year we will hold another Valentine’s Evening like we did this year, as it has proved to be a popular function in the community. And don’t forget the annual sale of Christmas cakes which can be ordered from our club at a cost of R115 each.

“The members of Kingsburgh Lions look forward to serving the local community for another year and for many years to come. Should you be interested in serving the community with us, we would love you to join us.” For further information about Kingsburgh Lions, call Moira on 082-876-3239 or Lion Pat Wilson on 082-550-3159.
