5 Reasons exercising is not only about weight loss

Studies have shown that when you work out, you cut your risk of many serious conditions, including cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.

Getting in sufficient exercise can help you lose weight and burn calories. Everyone knows that. Or should, says our sister paper, South Coast Herald.

Here’s a summary of five reasons to get off the couch.

1. Exercise can help put your mind at ease and relieve stress. Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it.

2. Getting active can increase your happiness. Even something as simple as a short walk can boost your energy levels.

3. Exercise can help keep you mentally sharp. As we age, our brains can go through changes. Keep your brain ‘young’ by not sitting around all day doing nothing.

4. Exercise can ease pain. Aches and stiffness that keep you away from exercise may actually decrease with more movement.

5. Exercise can make you healthier overall. In addition to helping you lose weight, exercise can help you live a long life.
