In an interview with the SUN, a resident who wished to remain anonymous said they fear the garbage will wash out into the sea. “Illegal dumping should not be tolerated in any community. However, the Amanzimtoti River flows through the area and this to us, is extremely worrying. People are battling to clean up the beaches, and if the garbage ends up on the beach, it is going to be troublesome. DSW should also be held accountable. The area should be cleaned up as soon as possible.”

However the investigations conducted by ward 73 councillor, Andre Beetge revealed that the occupant of the land, essentially located within the constraints of the Ingonyama trust area, is hoping to establish a platform by using building rubble and other mediums.

“Irrespective of this being a relative common practice, concern was raised when the participation of DSW vehicles were noted, as essentially the same commodities are required as part of the integrate workings of a landfill site. The matter has been handed to the department for investigation and report back,” said Beetge.
