Umkomaas golfers on a winning streak

Semi-final results on Saturday, 17 August, saw Nelson defeating Barrie Taylor two-up and Chris Pillay beating Kavesh Seewpersad two and one.

The Umkomaas women have been on a wonderful winning streak of late.

This past week Linda Toward and Lesa Vergottini took on Port Shepstone’s Yzelle Greyling and Kim Strauss in the second round of the annual Natalia foursomes, this year being competed in the South Coast region. UGC’s women won two and one on the 18th hole and will take on Margate in the next round in the coming weeks.

The miserable weather on Saturday, 17 August, didn’t put off the regulars who competed in a betterball club competition. New members Russell and Evija McKelvey took top honours on a count-out from Sabiha Bacaus and Riek Janse van Rensburg on 45 points. Third place, on an equally impressive 43 points, were Tom Naicker and Saga Reddy. Sabiha’s great form continues and she scooped an impressive 11 points on the four jackpot holes.

Semi-final results on Saturday, 17 August, saw Nelson defeating Barrie Taylor two-up and Chris Pillay beating Kavesh Seewpersad two and one.

In the A division, Tash Naicker beat Greg Theil and dad Viv Naicker lost to ‘big Joe’. The finals are scheduled for the end of the month.

In the C division, Dave Robertson will go up against Rory Bernadis, while B division B sees Chris Pillay up against Nelson Moonsamy. The club matchplay (A division) final will be contested by Tash Naicker and ‘big Joe’.

Aliwal Stroll promises to bring visitors to the sunny South Coast. Umkomaas’ annual betterball competition will once again take place on the long weekend in September.

The competition, now in its fourth year, brings golfers from our inland reciprocity clubs, but is open to all golfers keen to enjoy the glorious course, lively entertainment and friendly atmosphere. At just R400 per person for the two-day competition and including live entertainment and great prizes, it’s a must.
