Rainy weather does not dampen Amanzimtoti racers’ spirits

The event was action packed and spectators were left on the edge of their seats throughout the rainy day.

Despite the tough weather conditions over the weekend, the Amanzimtoti racers took to Dezzi Raceway to defend their KZN Road Racing Club Championship standings in round five, on Saturday, 17 August.

The event was action packed and spectators were left on the edge of their seats throughout the rainy day.

“Hein Etzel of Argotek Engineering lead the way from the word ‘Go!’ as he qualified first, and won race one and two. There was an intense battle for second place between Nikolai Conci of Helluvafast Motorcycles, Karl Etzel of Auto Rust Control, and Craig Bishop throughout the day, but finished off with Hein in first, Karl in Second, and Nikolai in third. It was in the extra race, race three, where the rain made an unexpected appearance, Hein Etzel missed the opportunity to put rain tyres on his bike, but still headed out on the wet track with slick tyres,” said Carmen Conci.

At the end of the battle in race three, it was Karl Etzel who claimed the win and Hein placed in third.

The rain played a big role in leveling out the playing field in the 300 class, as the racers were put to the challenge to show off their strategy.

“Our Toti boys, Malcolm Rudman of Montclaire Motorcycles, and Nikolai Conci and Jesse Conci of Helluvafast Motorcycles didn’t let the rain bother them out on Dezzi Raceway. Malcolm Rudman, who normally wipe the floors clean, was challenged by Nikolai Conci at this meeting.  It closed with Malcolm in first and Nikolai in second for the day. Jesse Conci was placed fifth for the day. Hein Etzel wrote his win all over the track for the day as he qualified first, and then moved forward to win both races to take his first place for the day. Malcolm Rudman unfortunately face a lot of technical difficulties with his bike throughout the day, but nevertheless the champion proceeded to give us a solid third place for the day,” said Carmen.

Amanzimtoti Racers, Anja Conci, Nikolai Conci, Hein Etzel, Karl Etzel, Marc Nel, and Liaan Smit will be heading up to Zwartkops in Johannesburg this weekend to compete in Round six of the Superbike Mag Short Circuit.
