[LETTER] Pick up after your dogs

Do your part for the environment and do the right thing by acting responsibly.

EDITOR – There are millions of dogs in South Africa which adds to a lot of daily walks, most dog walkers are happy and even proud to bag and bin their dog’s waste.

But just recently, I took a walk along the beach front in the Doonside area and was disgusted with the amount of dog waste pet owners leave behind without making any effort in picking it up and binning it at the same time.

Dog faeces is not just unpleasant to see and annoying if you trod in to it by accident, but more importantly, a health hazard for us all. Dog waste can also carry parasitic diseases like any animal, that can have a negative health impact on people and animals that come into contact with it, this is also an invitation to unwanted flies to the area.

A small proportion of dog walkers are totally disengaged from the idea that picking up their dog waste is the right thing to do. I encourage all dog owners to act responsibly and carry a poop bag on them and pick-up their dog waste and dispose of it at any bin close by.

Do your part for the environment and do the right thing by acting responsibly.
