Repairs complete at Amanzimtoti Country Club

The new bridge is now wider, at about 1.5-metres, which allows for mowers and tractors to be transported over.

After months of back-breaking work to repair and replace the damaged bridges and rehabilitate the course after a devastating storm three months ago, Amanzimtoti Country Club is back to being a full 18-hole golf course.

After lots of work, the longer bridge was officially opened on Wednesday, 5 June, which allowed golfers to play the club’s full 18 holes.

The shorter bridge had to be completely replaced with a price tag of about R1.2 million and chairperson, Simon Moriarty was chuffed to open it to the players on Wednesday, 31 July. “Despite the devastation, limited play got underway quite quickly, but not having the coarse playing as usual resulted in the loss of many rounds and visiting groups. We are pleased to be back to normal and look forward to the club making a full recovery.”

The club thanks Gerry Motley for all his efforts in managing the refurbishment and rebuilding of the bridges, along with the team from QML Engineering, who put in a major effort with the fabrication and installation. “A big thanks to the guys at M Projects for all their help and assistance with machinery and equipment that assisted with the installation, and to the greens and conservancy teams for all their efforts with the coarse and conservancy rehabilitation.

“A special thanks to all our members, visitors and sponsors who supported the bridge fundraiser. We thank you for your patience over the last few months and look forward to seeing you at the club,” said Simon.
