LISTEN: Suspect arrested for Umkomaas double murder

It is believed the coupled sustained head injuries during the brutal attack.

A 37-year-old suspect has been arrested for the murder of an elderly Umkomaas couple, which occurred last night.

Communications officer of Umkomaas SAPS, Cpt  Ismail Shaik said, “Constable Chetty responded to a burglary in Willow Glen at about 6.15pm.  The officer approached the house and noticed blood leading to another door which was locked.  He found an elderly man lying in a pool of blood.”  After further investigation, an elderly woman’s body was also found in a different room.

“The suspect informed police that he had locked the woman in another room and the scene was revisited,” added Cpt  Ismail Shaik.

It is believed the couple sustained head injuries during the brutal attack.  According to provincial spokesperson, Col Thembeka Mbele, the victims’ vehicle was recovered when the suspect was arrested.

Police are also urging residents to refrain from posting pictures of the suspect on social media.

Station commander Col Qinisela Mabida commended the officers for their sterling efforts and the arrest of the suspect.

The case is being investigated at Umkomaas SAPS.
