Response officer recovers stolen bakkie

The vehicle was located while the suspects were busy stripping it.

Response officers recently witnessed how quickly thieves are able to strip a vehicle when they helped the CCPO and ET Rapid Response recover a stolen bakkie in KwaMakhutha on Saturday, 27 July.

The CCPO’s George Snodey said the bakkie was stolen in Beach Road in Toti and although everyone carrying the CCPO’s radios responded with a member heading to a specific point of exit, it soon became obvious the vehicle was driven away from the area.

The search spread to nearby townships and ET’s Louis van Ryneveld located the vehicle while the suspects were busy stripping it. The suspects ran into the nearby shacks leaving the vehicle idling. The vehicle was then driven to Toti SAPS. The dash and interior was completely destroyed in about 20 minutes.

“They strip the vehicle while driving to search for the tracking unit. This owner was very fortunate everyone responded and he managed to get his vehicle back,” said Snodey.
