Ramblers hike Giba Gorge trails

Toti Ramblers will hike through the Giba Gorge Nature Reserve, to McIntosh Falls from Hillcrest side on Sunday, 28 July.

The reserve is 72 hectare in extent and comprises predominantly of scarp forest and grassland. This hike is moderate to fairly tough so bring a hiking stick. Those doing the full hike will cover about eight kilometres and members opting for the easier route will cover about three and a half kilometres. The bird and plant diversity is fantastic and there are benches along the way to rest and enjoy the spectacular views. The hike will start with the Giba trail, then the Ukhozi trail, look out for the resident pair of crowned eagles, through forest, riverine and cliff habitats and finally onto the Ndabushe trail. They will have a break at the falls before heading back to the start.

Bring sun screen and a hat. There will be a picnic after the walk, don`t forget your chair. Meet at Lords and Legends parking area at 7am, to sort out transport. If new to the area, meet at Lords and Legends parking and travel in convoy.

An indemnity form must be completed if not already done, have your ID number available. There is no entrance fee, but a donation to Giba Gorge environmental precinct will be appreciated.
