ABC’s Doreen takes bronze in Port Natal veteran’s masters

Good bowling to ABC’s men in the ninth Port Edward bowls challenge on Saturday and Sunday, 27 and 28 July

Congratulations to Doreen Salmond of Toti Bowling Club, who narrowly missed going through to the final of the Port Natal veteran women’s masters and earned bronze.

In the women’s open singles semi’s, Jane Coetzee beat Tokkie de Kock. Good bowling to Jane and Doreen when they play each other in the final. Dani Cardoso defeated Toni Roberts as well as Jenny Rautenbach in the novices singles; Toni lost to Cathy Badenhorst and Jaylene Fagan beat Alet Wobben.

In the women’s Kwikspar trips, the winners were Julie Sutherland, Marion Crouch and Alet Wobben; in second place were Denise Bingham, Amanda Ninow and Dani Cardoso and the second session went to Stella Erasmus, Dot Liebetrau and Di Kruger. Linda McGregor won the 100 board. In the men’s 2-4-2, the winners were Alan McGregor and Barry Buckland; runners-up were Ray Robinson and Mike Groom and the second session was won by A(SAME) Darling and Coy Schrauwen. Ian Crouch, Lofty van Tonder, Ray Robinson and Julie Sutherland were the winners of big chicks; runners-up were Alan McGregor, Brian Crause, Noreen Butler and Linda McGregor and the second session went to Brian Masters, Amanda Ninow, Vish Studinski and Dani Cardoso.

At TGIF the 100 board went to Mary Ann Hein. Vince Phaal missed out on the members draw as he was not present; next week’s draw will be R250. Fred Welch tried in vain to turn Des Sole’s key, but it proved to be the wrong one. Next week’s lucky key will be worth R2 200.

Burgers and bowls by floodlight social evening takes place on Thursday, 1 August at 5pm for 5.30pm. Bowls is a fun game the whole family can play together, combining skill and strategy. Members will be on hand to show the ropes and bowls will be available for use. The game lasts about 75 minutes; just wear flat soled takkies or sandals. Cost is R25 for the game and R30 for a burger.

Good bowling to ABC’s men in the ninth Port Edward bowls challenge on Saturday and Sunday, 27 and 28 July, and good luck in retaining the trophy. Good bowling is also wished to the six members playing KZN singles from Saturday, 27 to Monday, 29 July. Many happy returns are wished this week to Herbert Hofmann.
