Suspects drive train from Umkomaas to Ilfracombe during joyride

The two suspects hopped aboard the idling train when in Umgababa and single-handedly drove the train north to Ilfracombe.

A TWELVE kilometre joyride took place after an empty, idling train was taken over and driven from Umkomaas to Ilfracombe on Friday afternoon, 19 July.

Prasa has confirmed that the matter is under priority investigation, as the act risked the lives of many and could have resulted in a terrible outcome.

The two suspects hopped aboard the idling train when in Umgababa and single-handedly drove the train north to Ilfracombe. When it stopped they jumped out and fled, and have yet to be found.

Prasa spokesperson Zama Nomnganga explained that the highly sensitive incident was dangerous and irresponsible as it could have collided with another train, derailed or killed many.

“This is not a play station, if people want to drive a train they must undergo training,” said Nomnganga.

If you possess information pertaining to the incident, contact Prasa on 012-748-7000. Prasa also urges the community to report those responsible for cable theft.
