Friends and former colleagues reunited

They have pledged to continue being members of the retired SAPS members social club

Bala Naidoo and Daniel Seevaraj, former residents of Bainesfield, were reunited at the last meeting of retired police officers at The Chistlehurst Academics and Arts, where former police officers meet.

They both joined SAPS in Pietermaritzburg during 1971. Naidoo served at Mountain Rise then later transferred to numerous other stations before his retirement.

Seevaraj served at Thornville and a number of other stations within Pietermaritzburg before he joined the City of Pietermaritzburg as a traffic law enforcement officer where he held a senior position for many years until his retirement.

Both served their basic training at the same time at the renowned Wentworth Police College, where they graduated during 1971 as fully fledged constables. Seevaraj was reunited with a number of his contemporary police friends and former colleagues and many old friendships were rekindled at a joyous reunion. Colonel Logan Govender said it was heartening to welcome an old friend and former colleague into the exclusive circle of retired police officers, as membership is restricted to former police officers who retired while serving SAPS. It is expected that Seevaraj will be a regular among the group.

While with road traffic, Seevaraj was most cooperative and operated in conjunction with SAPS officers in numerous crime prevention strategies. “A distinctive feature that I recall of him, that he was most disciplined towards commissioned officers and would salute which was not a requirement or demand except among members of the Defence Force and Correctional Service, this was part of the disciplinary procedure among rank and file of SAPS officers,” said Logan Govender.

Captain Zenzele Ndlovu was a student who served at Thornville under the instruction and tutelage of Seevaraj. Ndlovu was provided the grounding for an illustrious with SAPS and eventually rose to the rank of captain. He is now retired. All three have pledged to continue being members of the retired SAPS members social club thereby being in close communication and contact with each other.
