Support car park attendants [LETTER]

They are charged daily rates in renting their blocks, whether they make money or not.

EDITOR – We are currently touring South Africa and it totally excites me that your paper informs the public of sunshine, crime, births, deaths and events.

My wife enjoys browsing in shops, while I socialise with everyone from all walks of life. From Johannesburg to Cape Town through Durban and suburbs, I chat to people and this area is exploiting people found in unfortunate circumstances. We learnt the sad truth that shopping malls and centres are cashing in from car park attendants. These people dedicate their time and efforts in assisting in much needed services.

They are charged daily rates in renting their blocks, whether they make money or not. I had the fortunate position of spending time in the service industry and we were paid accordingly with incentives and bonuses, but now people are charged? Is there any records of where or who these fees go to? Desperate time calls for desperate measures, and I observed that not everyone gives and the attendant has to put up with abuse when all they are doing is genuinely trying to support themselves and their families.
