Don’t judge a book by its cover [LETTER]

I think it’s time to set the records straight.

EDITOR – It astounds me how ill-informed people go through life.

They seem to live in a tiny bubble and have no idea about what goes on around them. They think they know, and in the process cause much confusion among the other bubble dwellers. So with this in mind and after having the unfortunate privilege of running into a situation where this fake news was thrown at my husband, I think it’s time to set the records straight.

The vehicle that is used by 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue is seven years old and paid for by ourselves. A Wesbank loan in my name with a debit order going off my bank account. Not paid for by money that was gifted to 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue. The house we live in still belongs to the bank and a debit order goes off my salary every month to pay for the house. No money gifted to 4 Paws and a Tale is ever used to pay for the roof over my head. Now just so as to inform those who think that running 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue is a breeze, think about this. Our vet bill averages between R20 000 and R35 000 per month. This for sterilisation, injured and abused animals. Our food bill averages R12 000 to R15 000 per month. We currently feed anything between 150 to 200 dogs every second day.

We get up at 3am and leave home at 4.30am to start feeding as we both work a full day. Johnny has to be at work by 7am and I start at 7.30am. No amount of money could be enough to encourage me to do this day after day, month after month, year after year unless I have a great love for animals.

I bury the injured and dying. I hold the dying who have been beaten, stabbed and neglected all their lives until they breath no more. I cry over the little ones that die because no one else cared, you included and then you have the gall to believe and tell other people that I do this for money. Wake up and look around you and see the world we live in instead of trying to shut me down. I’m here to stay no matter what you and your like-minded friends think. 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue is a registered NPO. We are audited every year. We are registered with SARS and the two women who work at our shops are also registered for UIF. All above board. Should anyone feel they want to have a look at the books, feel free to contact me or our treasurer, Peter Fielding, and you can have a look. There is nothing to hide. I do not steal from those who already have nothing and I have nothing to hide.
