Three Amanzimtoti Bowling Club teams through to Port Natal pro 10 playoffs

The final between Dion and Lofty will be played on Saturday, 13 July

Toti Bowling Club’s Lofty van Tonder and Ray Robinson, Dave Kemp and Cleve Hein, and Dion Audie and Dominque Horn won their sections in the Port Natal Pro 10 and go through to the playoffs on Sunday, 14 July, at Toti’s bowling club.

In the third round of the men’s open singles, Doug Joubert defeated Mike Pitchers, Dion Audie beat Dave McMillan and Lofty van Tonder overcame Ray Robinson. In the semi-finals Dion beat Alec Stirzaker and Lofty got the better of Doug. The final between Dion and Lofty will be played on Saturday, 13 July, to determine who will represent the club in the Port Natal champion of champions. In a first round game of men’s senior singles, Peter Labuschagne defeated Phil Perkins, but Peter was beaten by Ian Crouch.

In the women’s nominated pairs, Leonie Mills and Leigh Callaghan beat Heather Cooper and Jacqui Fouché and in the women’s drawn pairs, Julie Sutherland and Jane Coetzee overcame Lynn Joubert and Dani Cardoso. Dawn Schauer had a good win over Jaylene Fagan in the women’s novice singles.

Amanda Ninow and Linda McGregor were the winners of the John Dory women’s 2-4-2; runners-up were Gay Jutte and Avril Smith of Umkomaas and the second session went to Pam Chalder-Royle and Lys McDonald. Norma Raath won the 100 board. Congratulations to Dani Cardoso who has been selected to play in the under 30 masters at Westville on Saturday, 31 August.

The winners of the men’s trips were Coy Schrauwen, Steve Liebetrau and Les Gibbons, in second place were Barry Buckland, George Glaves, and Guelfo Cobianchi and the second session went to Paul Els, Gert Richter and Alan Baxter.

At TGIF Lys McDonald won the 100 board. Sid Bacon was not present to win the member’s draw, next week’s draw is worth R150. Gladys and Dennis Hughes were unlucky in the key draw, next week’s draw will be R1 570. The sad news reached the club that Bill Beamson, husband of the late Barbara, passed away on Sunday, 7 July, after a short illness. Condolences are sent to Susan and family. Birthday greetings are sent this week to George Glaves. Good health is wished to all members.
