Amanzimtoti racers take on Polokwane Raceway

Anja Conci, Hein Etzel, Karl Etzel and wild card racer Nikolai Conci represented Toti at round five of the Superbike Magazine Short Circuit Series at Polokwane Raceway.

ROUND five of the Superbike Magazine Short Circuit Series took place over the weekend of 29 June at Polokwane Raceway and Amanzimtoti racers Anja Conci, Hein Etzel, Karl Etzel and wild card racer Nikolai Conci headed up 900km away to the chilly raceway.

“Our woman rider, Anja Conci, came with determination to fight for the championship title in the Honda CBR250 Ladies Cup,” explained Carmen Conci.

“Anja managed to steal the whole shot, giving her the lead, but a very difficult lead to hold onto. Anja battled it out with her closest competitors Zoe Bosch and Nicole van Aswegen. She finished heat one and two in second position. In heat three she unfortunately had very bizarre technical difficulties with her bike, but even still her hard work earlier in the day paid off and gave her an overall third place for the day.”

Hein Etzel in SM1 X, the premiere Supermoto class, battled it out in all three heats against Jesse Boschoff and Brandon Goode. Carmen explained that all the preparation and hard work paid off as Hein sped off to finish line in first place in all three heats.

“Not only that, but Hein also broke the lap record by 0.2 seconds. He came home with his earned first place trophy,” she said.

“Brother Karl Etzel in SM1, the Supermoto class, set the bar high and dominated the first two heats. After changing his set up heat three, Karl lost a bit of his pace, but even so he still placed third. All the efforts was enough to rally up enough points to take home first place.”

Nikolai “Kamikaze” Conci (#881) waiting for race start.

Nikolai Conci, who was invited up to race in the SM1 class, earned the name ‘Kamikaze’ for the day.

“Nikolai, surprised us all having prepared his bike in just short of two days, and entered in as a wild card entry. Having nothing to lose, Nikolai laid his skills flat on the table and made waves in the class. The madman had a great four-way battle between other racers for third position. Unfortunately, he struggled with rear suspension problems, leaving him with a still impressive fifth place for the day,” she said.

Nikolai expressed his gratitude to everyone that made the race happen.

Amanzimtoti’s Karl Etzel (#89) and Hein Etzel (#88) leading the field of more than 20 riders.
