For the love of art: Meet Isipingo Hills Primary’s Amkele Nzuza (11)

The grade 6 learner draws inspiration from her favourite books and TV programmes.

ART is Isipingo Hills Primary’s Amkele Nzuza’s, 11, special gift that she occupies herself with during any time she can find.

The grade 6 learner draws inspiration from her favourite books and TV programmes.

Amkele started drawing when she was about three-years-old. Like every young child, she felt called to express her creativity on paper, but when she began school her passion for art grew exponentially.

“I draw whenever I have time,” said Amkele. “When I finish my work at school and have time left over, I work on my drawings. When I get home I just draw and draw,” she added.

Amkele explained how with many of her pieces, she sees a small picture of a character in a book and through her skills with drawing utensils, blows the picture up to an A2 or A3 size, paying attention to details and colour.

At school the artist enjoys art and mathematics. She has a love for mathematics, but admitted that she doesn’t always find it easy. Her love for the subject will, no doubt, carry her towards excelling in the subject. Her talents stretch to the athletics field, where she excels in long jump and running, and also enjoys swimming.

“I enjoy drawing and doing art, but don’t really see it as something I would do as a profession,” she said. In the near future she aspires to enter her pieces into competitions.
