Motocross enthusiasts to lend a hand with building Amanzimtoti track

This weekend, Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July, will see those keen on making the facility a reality get down and dirty to add the finer touches to the track.

MOTOCROSS enthusiasts are urged to lend a hand in creating a local track that will cater for riders of all levels, situated on the grounds north of Galleria Mall along Arbour Road.

This weekend, Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July, will see those keen on making the facility a reality get down and dirty to add the finer touches to the track.

“There is clearly a need for a motocross track in Amanzimtoti,” said involved roleplayer in the building of the track, Stephen van Veen. “All other tracks are a distance away and a lot of them have, over the years, not been permanent facilities. We hope that this track will be a permanent one.”

Up to date, it has been locals who have monetarily donated towards hiring a TLB to clear the track, but both financial and physical contributions are still a great need. The land, that is owned by Galleria Mall, was fenced off in an effort to increase safety of those utilising the track.

“We’re going to make this a track that all levels of riders can enjoy,” said Stephen. “There will be pretty big jumps but will also be sections demarcated for younger, less experienced riders.”

This weekend those who have been involved in creating the track invite the community to don their gloves and get stuck in. Both Saturday and Sunday roleplayers will be busy creating, building up and molding the jumps on the track, demarcating areas and adding final touches; the more manpower invested the better.

“People need to get involved and donate towards making this track a reality. The TLB will be there until Thursday but there’s only so much it can do. The rest needs to be physically done. If you can’t make a monetary donation, come down and lend a hand,” said Stephen.

The track will not be open for riding this weekend and once the track is set, an official opening will take place.

Those looking to be a part of the great initiative should bring along gloves and hardy shoes, spades, rakes and wear old clothes, as there will also be painting taking place.

There will be a braai afterwards.
