The renowned fashionista shared more on the evening and her inspiration for the raceday.

“Being invited to the evening, which took place on Saturday, 29 June at Gateway, is basically the most sought after accolade for a designer at the Vodacom Durban July,” she began.

“Designers were expected to create three garments: a lady’s and men’s raceday look and then a showstopper, according to this year’s theme, which is ‘Stars of Africa’. This collection was featured at the VIP evening this past weekend and will again be featured again this Saturday at the races.”

Elaborating on her pieces, Madelain drew inspiration from the beautifully raw and natural aesthetics of Africa.

“I drew my inspiration from all the places in Africa that I can truly say I can find my soul. Desert dunes, our powerful oceans and the scattered stars shining bright in African skies; always keeping in mind elegance and classic style that goes hand in hand with the races,” she said.

Madelain explained that it is no other than her son, Jordan Clark, who is this year’s male model.

“I was very proud to have my son Jordan, who is a local boy, be my male model this year. He walked the ramp with professional models and really delivered,” she said.

“My advice to anyone wanting to compete in the fashion stakes this weekend, would be to remember that it’s not a dress-up party. Style and elegance is key and not to be forgotten. We have such a melting pot of culture in Africa so the possibilities are endless.”
